“Our deepest trauma, I believe, is separation from the Divine, that wound of separation from the Divine,” says Lori Leyden, an internationally known trauma healing professional, transformational leader, and mentor who courageously follows her heart, makes dreams become a reality and inspires others to do the same.
In this conversation with Steve Farrell, executive director of Humanity’s Team, Lori speaks passionately about what she sees as our two primary purposes in this life: rediscovering our connection to the Divine and expressing our own unique Divine selves.
Even when we’re in touch with the connection to our true nature, we often encounter what feels like stumbling blocks when we move into the role of expression and action. This is often due to trauma, either conscious or unconscious.
Lori shares that there are four characteristics of trauma:
When we’ve experienced trauma, anything could trigger a response in our bodies. This is why it seems difficult to prepare ourselves so that we can avoid being instantaneously reactive.
But there is something we can do. And we can do it right here, right now.
“When we’re not breathing deeply and slowly,” Lori reminds us, “we’re sending signals to the brain that we’re not safe.”
By consciously breathing, we send signals that tell the brain all is fine and we immediately move into a state of more peace and harmony.
In this podcast, Our Hearts are Wired for the Divine, Lori leads us through a few exercises that help us to find that place of peace inside.
Lori says, “‘Stress trauma’ is literally a brain dysfunction, so just treating it with words doesn’t work.”
