CAPE TOWN, South Africa, Feb. 10 (UPI) -- Archbishop Desmond Tutu signed a petition appealing to the United Nations to declare an annual global Oneness Day, the petition's organizers said Tuesday.
Anglican Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu, the South African activist who won the Nobel Peace Prize for his international advocacy of a non-violent end to South African apartheid, has enthusiastically agreed to receive Humanity's Team's Spiritual Leadership Award.
A key declaration adopted by Humanity's Team's Global Council at its most recent meeting (Buenos Aires, Argentina; May 2008), concerned Cultural Diversity:
As part of its Spiritual Activism Initiative, Humanity’s Team recently launched a petition to collect 50,000 signatures asking the United Nations to declare a World Oneness Day, a day set aside for humanity to celebrate, discuss and experience our commonalities together with our rich cultural diversities.
This is the most important petition ever launched . . . Toward a new humanity, a new earth, and a New Spirituality.
Humanity's Team is collecting 50,000 signatures to get the United Nations to declare a Oneness Day, a day set aside and embraced by individuals, communities and nations for humanity to celebrate, discuss and experience our similarities as well as our rich cultural diversities -- our Oneness -- a day to unite with the entire universe as one human family.
